'水龍骨' means 'Polypodiaceae' in Chinese character.
'Polypodiaceae' is a family name of ferns to which staghorn fern (platycerium) belongs.

The beautiful botanical illustration of Meiji era (In 19th century) is printed on its back.
The botanical illustration is from my private collection of antique botanical arts.

The botanical illustration was carefully printed using the multicolor lithography technique one by one.
The vivid colors unique to printmaking and the subtle blurring and smudging give a sense of craftsmanship.

The illustration was from "Ordinary Plant Illustrated Book" edited by Tomitaro Makino, who was called the "Father of Japanese Botany" in the Meiji era (1868-1912).

As for staghorn fern (platycerium), platycerium alcicorne is drawn in it.
Thinking back to the alcicorne, which was highly valued at that time...

The sleeve features the Chinese character "水龍骨科" (water dragon bone family), which means Polypodiaceae.
